"I HATE (or very much dislike) NBC!"

**shakes fist in the air**

I'm getting to frustrated with NBC. Why the hell are you showing the Olympic Events on tape delay to the West Coast when the damn games are in the same time zone???? I just don't get it. I understand wanting to show the events that are going on during regular work day hours later in the evening. But do you have to wait until 8:00PM? Do you have to show the BEST events at freaking midnight???? It is beyond ridiculous. I should not have to stay up until 12:30AM to see the finals in skating. My poor mother is missing so much because she just can't stay awake that late. Start the show at 6:00PM. Why 8??? Arrrggh.....
Other than that little complaint...
I'm loving this years Olympics. From Ono to Vonn to Canada's Ice Dancing couple....was that beautiful or what? Although I did prefer the USA couples dance to the Phantom of the Opera (just liked the music better), I did think the Canadians skated beautifully. I loved watching the Ski Cross....OMG crazy skiers! And the half pipe and the aerials so much fun!
Unfortunately I am going to miss so much of the rest of it. Like the Womens Hockey final between USA and Canada. Might have to go to a bar or something Thursday and try to see that when we are at the beach. We'll see. Mostly....I am sooooo looking forward to Sundays Gold Metal Mens Hockey! Should be a great game regardless of who plays in it **USAUSAUSAUSA**

Symphonie fantastique.....gives me the chills.....

Yesterday we went to the Oregon Symphony's rehearsal for "Angela Hewitt Plays Mozart". Angela Hewitt is a pianist. A very beautifully trained pianist. The Symphony started out with Passacaglia by Anton Webern, composed in 1908. Enjoyed that piece a lot. Then Angela came out and they rehearsed Mozart's Concerto No.23 in A major for Piano and Orchestra, K.488, composed sometime between 1784-1786. So impressive. The way her fingers flowed over the keys was so amazing. I would love to be able to play any instrument, but mostly I would love to know how to play the piano, guitar and violin. But alas....I am not musically inclined. Just looking at sheet music makes me sweat. I have no idea what it says. It fascinated me yesterday to hear the conductor say something to the musicians and then they would grab a pencil and write on their sheet music. Or he would stop them and say a certain section was coming in too soon, or going to fast. He would ask them to start at number 160 or something like that, and they would all turn their sheets, and just pick it up. They finished rehearsing with Angela, took a little break and then came back to rehearse about 50 minutes of Berlioz Symphonie fantastique. Don't know why Berlioz spells "fantastique" with a lower case "f" but he did. Some of you may be familiar with a little bit of this composition. It was featured quite prominently in the Julia Robert's movie "Sleeping with the Enemy". One of my favorite watch-any-time-its-on movies! This is the movie where her character is asked if she likes classical music and she responds by saying something like "Anything but Berlioz Symphonie fantastique. It gives me the chills." Well it gave her the chills because her husband that she was hiding from was basically raping her to the music. So yeh...it would give her the chills! I think the part that was played in the movie is either March to the Scaffold or Dream of the Witches' Sabbath. I'm going to see if I can find anything online so that you can hear it. It is the 5th Movement, so its Dream of the Witches' Sabbath.

Starting at about 3:20 in is where the music from the movie will be. I don't think this symphony is playing it very powerful though.

Ok...this one is better. More powerful. It starts at 3:11.

We had a really great day yesterday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY HUBBY!

I have been busy all day.
It's hubby's b-day.
We started off going to listen to the Oregon Symphony rehearsal.
Will talk about that tomorrow.
Then I had to go buy his b-day gift since I had not made the time to do that. Working full time sucks.
Got him what he wanted though!
Then I spent the rest of the afternoon getting the ingredients for his b-day dinner of Alpine Macaroni! It was yummy!
Now I am busy farming all 3 accounts on Facebook....
and he is fast asleep on the couch with a full belly :-)

Another Beauty!

Yes Mary.....a lawn mower!
And the sun is still shining!
And I'm still sitting inside not getting to enjoy it.
You know....it will most certainly rain this weekend since it has been so nice out all week.
And even if it is nice tomorrow...I will be INSIDE again!
Tomorrow is hubby's b-day.
We have tickets to listen to the Oregon Symphony's rehearsal in the morning.
The rehearsals can be interesting.
If the conductor does not like something, they stop and make them start over.
I went to a Dress Rehearsal for the Nutcracker a few years ago.
The dancers came in late on a part, so after that dance was over, the director stopped everything and made them do it over.
It was fun to see that side of it, instead of always seeing everything "perfect".
Because as a non-performer, I always think everything is "perfect"!
After that, I want to take hubby to see Avatar.
I have not had a chance to see it, and want to really bad.
I asked him if he wanted to go out to dinner, or have me cook.
He decided that he wanted me to make Alpine Macaroni and homemade applesauce.
So that is what he will get!
Oh....and he wants Weiss Beer!
Surprised he's not making me wear a dirndl too!

All is Quiet...All is Bright....

OK...
Maybe "all" is not actually "quiet"...the lawn maintenance people are mowing outside my window.
But all is "bright"!
The sun is shining again today.
I love the sound of the lawn mower.
It says summer, warmth, fresh lawn.
The smell of freshly mowed grass and new bark always make me think of summer.
I'm really looking forward to it getting warmer.
I'm tired of being cold.
(remind me that i just said this when i'm bitching because it's 90!)
I'm just ready for days with more sunlight, getting out and walking, camping....all of that good summer stuff!
Soon...
I can tell...
It will be here soon :-)

Film Fest Results

At least for me....
Not sure about Bryan.
We watched all but one of the movies. I didn't want to make him watch one that he had already seen.
Although that argument doesn't work with Precious.
He had seen that one too.
But the other one was a documentary on an over aged metal band trying to make a go of it still.
I was not feeling it....so I wanted to skip it.
He said I should have watched it to "complete" the Fest.
Sorry Bubba...
Here is the list of movies in order that we watched.
Precious
The Messenger
The Vicious Kind
Easier with Practice
Amreeka
(skipped Anvil:The Story of Anvil)

I knew about Precious and The Messenger, but had not heard of the others. I was pleasantly surprised by The Vicious Kind. We both really liked it.
That is the thing about Indie Films. You don't usually hear anything about them, so when you watch them, you sometimes get a nice surprise and really enjoy a movie.
Or as in the case of Easier with Practice...you get to embarrass yourself in front of your son because you are watching a movie about a guy having graphicish phone sex throughout the whole thing....yeh....not sure how uncomfortable Bryan was, but yeh...the momma was. I think the writer of that movie was trying to get you to believe one thing so that you would get this big "Crying Game" type shock at the end, but I had already figured it out. Amreeka was good too. I didn't like the ending at all though. They just kind of...ended it. I was like...WTS? Is that how they ended it? It could have gone on more. Guess they didn't know what to do. It was a good story though. It was about a mother and her son from the East Bank and how they were having to live in a war zone and then leaving and coming to America only to be treated like they were terrorists because of the war in Iraq. People were calling them Muslims (like that is a bad word or something) and yet they were from a completely different country and were Arabs. Good movie, the ending just sucked.
Besides Precious and The Messenger, which we knew would be good movies, we both really like The Vicious Kind. Well acted, good script, just a good Indie film. The main character was dealing with his breakup with his girlfriend, only to have his brother start dating a girl who was very similar in appearance, and he was having trouble dealing with that, and then dealing with his obsession of wanting her. It was a good story about a troubled family who had not dealt with the reason of the family breaking up and then the death of a parent. Good movie.
I don't recommend watching Easier with Practice (unless you like watching guys have phone sex), but I do recommend the others :-)

It's a Film Festival :-)

I am headed to my sons this weekend in Seattle.
He is getting to vote on the Spirit Awards.
So they have sent him a movie package that he has to watch and vote on....I believe...for writing.
So I am going up there to have a Weekend Movie Festival.
I'm so excited.
There are a couple movies that he was sent that I have not had a chance to see in the theaters yet.
The other movies I have not heard of.
That always makes for a good time!
Not having any preconceived ideas about a story line/plot.
It will be loads of fun!
If I can....because I'm not sure how "secret" his movie package is suppose to be....I will let you know what we saw and what we thought of the movies!
Of course though....I will not be able to tell you how he votes.
In fact....
He may not even tell me until after the awards :-)

Not the way the Olympics should have started....

So sad today when the Georgian luger was killed when he crashed on his trial run.
I was going to blog earlier today about my excitement for the Olympics to start today, but then I was just sad.
I have a feeling that young athlete would say "Let the Games go on!" and feel that by doing that they would be honoring him the best way that they could.
It was just so tragic.

OK...It was nummy :-)

So I made that Sausage Breakfast Pie. It was pretty good. I think I would have liked it more with a little bit of green chilies in it. It could have used a little more spice. But other than that....we both liked it!
I took some pics to share....

Here it is at the start. Some sausage, bell pepper and onion frying up.

I forgot to take the picture and had already put it in the oven :-)

mmmmmmm....looking good!

Added the cheese....

And it's done :-)

Add a little fruit and an English muffin and you have a meal :-)

Hope you will give it a try too!

Breakfast for Dinner

Robert and I have trouble almost every night trying to decide what to have for dinner. We both are tired of eating.
It seems to be a mid week thing.
On the weekends we end up not eating lunch, and then just have dinner.
But during the week, we both eat lunch, so we are not hungry for dinner.
Or we are just indecisive about what to have.
It's the same thing every night...
"What do you want for dinner?"
"I don't know. What do you want?"
"I asked you. You pick."
"I don't want to make the decision."
"Well I made it last night."
"Come onnnnnnn....."
Yeh...
It goes like that every night.
So tonight I'm trying something new.
I went on to Betty Crocker's website and found a recipe for a breakfast pie.
Impossibly Easy Sausage Breakfast Pie.
I'm not even sure if I have a glass pie plate anymore, so I will just buy a pretty one tonight.
Here is the recipe....

Impossibly Easy Sausage Breakfast Pie

1 pck (12oz) bulk pork sausage
1 small bell pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
1-1/2 cups frozen shredded hash brown potatoes
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (4oz)
1/2 cup Original Bisquick Mix
1 cup milk
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 eggs

Heat oven to 400*. Spray 9-inch glass pie plate with cooking spray.
In skillet, cook sausage, bell pepper and onion over medium heat 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sausage in no longer pink; drain. Mix sausage mixture, potatoes and 1/2 of the cheese. Spread in pie plate.
In a bowl, stir Bisquick mix, milk, pepper and eggs until blended. Pour into pie plate.
Bake 30-35 minutes or until knife inserted comes out clean. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup cheese; bake 1 to 2 minutes longer or just until cheese is melted. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Makes 6 servings.

Sounds yummy to me!
Will let you know tomorrow :-)

Well Hello There Sunshine :-)

It's an absolutely gorgeous day.
The sun is shining.
The birds are singing.
I'm sitting inside.
What???
Wait a minute.....
Why the heck am I inside on such a beautiful day?
Oh yeh.....work.
It's all good though.
Gotta save that money if I want to go to Hawaii in the Fall.
I have wanted to go back since we got home from the last trip!
The flights are ridiculous right now though.
We want to fly Alaska Air because we have the companion ticket, but their prices right now are $502 per person.
Bleck.
Too high.
Or we are just too cheap.
Yeh that's it.
With the companion ticket it would be $300 per person, but last time we only paid $200+ per ticket.
We just need to keep watching for specials.
We get those emails all the time.
Hope one comes soon......
But until then....
I will just keep standing at my window looking outside at the beautiful sunshine :-)

Ate too much yesterday......

We had so much food yesterday. I mostly was eating the chicken wings. They were so good.
I started out with the chips & dip.
Then Katie brought some apples w/caramel dip.
Then the chicken wings.
Then I started eating the hot crab dip. I had 2 kinds of bread and some garlic bagel chips that I dipped in it. This was the first time I made that. It was yummy!
Then I think a had some more wings.
Snacked on black olives once in a while.
Ate some more chips.
Got back into the crab dip.
Ate a couple more wings.
Then the roast was done.
So I made a sandwich with some au jus.
I skipped the potato and mac salad.
But I did grab a couple more wings and some apples and caramel dip.
Oiy....I was stuffed.
But there was still room for a piece of cheesecake.
Surprisingly I did not get sick or feel crappy for having eaten that much food.
Maybe it's because it was dragged out over 7 hours......
All in all....it was a great day!

It's Gonna Be A SUPER DAY!

FOOTBALL!
I used to hate football. Thought it was so boring. Nothing compared to hockey. Hockey is still my favorite sport, but football is now right behind it. I really do love most sports. I will watch almost all of the Olympics, especially the Winter Games. Summer ones to me can be a little bit boring. I think the Winter sports are so much more exciting.
But that is for another blog.
Today is all about FOOTBALL!
SUPER BOWL FOOTBALL!
We are having Katie and her Tim over and Robert's Dad and Stepmom Maryalice. So there will only be the 6 of us. I just put the chicken wings in the oven. They have been marinating all night in a homemade teriyaki of soy sauce, brown sugar, white sugar, karo syrup and garlic powder. Robert will be putting a rib roast on the rotisserie, and we will slice that up for sandwiches. After the wings are done, I will be making a hot crab dip that I have garlic bagel chips and fresh bread to dip in. And there will be the usual chips and vegis w/dips. For dessert I decided that I didn't feel like baking (to the great disappointment of Katie) and bought a variety pack cheese cake instead. And then Katie will be bringing swedish meatballs. I love meatballs, but I never make them. With the new cookbook from work that I have, there are some recipes in there for meatballs that I want to try. So I will do them sometime in the near future. I just need a reason! The hot crab dip that I'm making today is from that cookbook.
Yummmy food will be consumed all day long!
Oh....
I am picking the Saints by 10.

I. M. Pathetic

Yep.
That's me alright.
It is now 10:00PM.
I have been on Facebook refreshing, harvesting, planting, collecting, trying to get butterflies, trying to get bricks and nails and boards and harnesses......oh my!
It's exhausting!
I have been doing this non stop since I got home. Glynis and I were madly texting each other....
"I'm about to post a butterfly. Are you ready?" "WAIT!!!!" or "Yes" or "Hold on" and then after an hour of texting I thought...screw it...and I called her. We were on the phone so long my battery drained. Did I hang up? Are you kidding? I plugged it into the charger and kept talking! Good thing because I ended up with 4 gray horses from the new stables!
It is now 10:04 and I have still not eaten dinner.
Now that is pathetic.
I have not eaten dinner because I was obsessed with getting the gray horses.
And guess what??
They are ugly!
LOL!
But I have 4 now!
They look like....gray. Just plain old gray. They could have at least given them a white mane, or Glynis said a black one would have looked good too. But they are just gray. They look like something out of a black and white photo.
Oh well......
It was fun talking to G for hours. I would be on one of the farms and she would whisper...."Berry is posting a horse go get one" or "I'm posting my horse now"
That was so much fun.
Now I am exhausted and actually kinda queasy from not eating.
So I am going to eat something little since it is so late.
And then I have to go harvest my peas.......

blargh....

what the hell???? don't know why this posted....another thing for me to b*tch about....i'm so computer challenged. this blog posted before i even had one. i have been trying for half an hour now to copy an email into this blog...but it wont work. i hate that i cant figure out how to get something from an email onto a blog. it was pictures, so i copied and saved those, but they wont load onto here. dont know why. i get so frustrated when things aren't working the way i want them too. i'm having trouble with my computer at home being freaking slow in loading farmville and that frustrates me too. but soon.....soooooooon i am getting a mac. bryan is coming down from seattle to take me mac shopping. i'm hoping this will put an end to my loading issues.
