My Fine Feathered Friends

Good Morning Friends!

While sitting here at the computer with the window open, letting in a little cool, fresh air, I heard a wonderful sound. Geese flying overhead. I love the sound of Geese. In fact, I love the sound of birds. There is just something so peaceful and relaxing about it. One of my favorite things to do when I have alone time is to go down to our Wildlife Refuge and birdwatch. I love finding certain birds, like the Owls or the Cedar Waxwings. I rarely see either of these birds, so when I spot one it makes it even more special. I started doing this in 2002. We also have several feeders in the back yard. We are lucky enough to have a woods behind our house, so I brings in a lot of different birds to the yard. I keep track in a book when we have a new visitor. I have decent enough binoculars, but I really want to invest in some high quality ones. Especially if I take the trip that I want to. I so want to go to Costa Rica for a bird watching trip. The company that we just used for our Europe trip also does a trip to Costa Rica for 10 days. Hubby has no desire to go at all. He lived in South America for a year in his teens. As he says....been there done that don't ever want to again. I don't blame him. I have asked my sister who also is a bird watcher. But I'm not to sure that she will do it. She wants to, but I can't seem to get her to commit.

I guess I will just have to take a little drive down to the refuge soon. Take the loop past the trees, and the river and the lake. Look for my beloved Owls, and Cedar Waxwings. Look for the regal Bald Eagles. Maybe I will be lucky and the Tundra Swans will have stopped by on their migration. It is my little secret garden down there. My place to be alone for hours. My place to enjoy the soft call of the birds. My place of peace.......

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Nice blog today Barb, I also enjoy the sound of birds. We have Doves and they make a COO sound every morning, its so relaxing. In re to AREA 51 about the Greek Festival, my Sister married a Greek, so she knows how to cook a lot of greek food my favorite is her homemade Baklava YUMMY!!!! She also makes great Pita (PEETA) whichis Spinach Pie with the filo dough I cannot work with that to save my soul, its very hard to work with. Then she makes a sweet pita with Farina thats also YUMMY. I don't care for lamb but she makes that too, for her husband and family, but she also don't care for it. We have a place in Detroit called Greek Town, and the Greek Town Casino, I have been to Greek Town, but never to the Casino. Greek Town is fun, so see Dreama, you need to move to Michigan LOL then you can go to a Greek Festival like every weekend. I was VERY impressed the way Obama went for a news conference even before he was sworn into the presidency WOO HOO, Its very sad here in Detroit, with all these car companies and everyone getting layed off with no chance of going back to work. My prayers are with them and their families.

Good morning Barb & Renee. It's good to see you back on line Renee but um you owe me an e-mail. LOL But thanks for text messaging me back! We have a Wildlife Refuge here and also a bird watch area. We have birds all over the place. My Mom has Hummingbirds. Last night I was outside with my Pekingese and a huge barn owl flew across the sky. Last week end I was at the Yacht basin and Pelicans were in the water. A lady asked me if they were a type of duck. I told her no but that we have a dock and geese pond across town. We have tons of seagulls and my favorite bird to photograph is the pink Flamingo.I'm not a bird watching expert so I have no idea what the rare birds are that I see.
Have a wonderful day everyone. Oh and Renee, I'm waiting for you to move down here. LOL. It's much warmer here!

Hey Barb...yet another thing we have in common. I also love to birdwatch, though I don't seem to find anything too unusual here. I think we are too close to the mountains and the high winds. Not sure if that is the "official" reason, but if I were a bird I wouldn't hang out here. These windstorms can be brutal. My favorite is the chickadee. I just love their coloring and they are so tiny and cute. I love them! I miss the eastern Blue Jays. Their coloring is amazing!! They are very territorial though, so I don't mind their aggressive ways.

Hi renee eve and dreama! Hope you all have a great weekend!! Hi to anyone else who pops in later.

Good Afternoon Renee Eve, Dreama and Glynis!
I hope all of you are having productive Saturdays!
Renee Eve...Owie. I have not fallen in a really ling time. Sometimes when I do trip or slip, I think it would be better if I just went down because I always tweek my back trying not to fall. Hope your booboo is better soon. And the Greek food sounds so yummy! Excpet the lamb. I don't like lamb.
Dreama....Oh man, would I love to see a big ol owl fly overhead. I sometimes think that after the sunsets that a few times there has been an owl that flies over. But you just can't tell. I have been in the hot tub late at night to and have seen something large fly over, but again, you just can't tell. The owls I have seen the the Refuge are early in the morning and they are just sitting in trees. Theay are really hard to find.
Glynis....I can't remember if you had bird feeders out at your house. I'm thinking you may have had one in your front yard??? But you should have a suet feeder and a black oil sunflower seed one. That will bring in the chickidees and nuthatches!
I just got home from spending the morning with my mom, sister, niece, Katie and her friend Mara. We went out to breakfast, then headed to Sleighbells to Christmas shop. After that we went to JoAnn's and bought some more stuff. They had the prettiest storage box with red cardinals on it for 9.99! I'm going to use it to store all of my card and scrapbook ribbon. I bought a whole lota ribbon and a small white fake Christmas tree for the living room. My mom bought the same one last year and it was really cute when all decorated. When the kids were little we always had 2 trees in the house. I miss that. So I bought the little white to set on a table in front of the living room window. It's gonna be cute!

Enjoy the rest of your day!
~Barb~
